Everyone goes through periods when they feel down, no matter how you live your life.
So many people who do healing work and teach the Law of Attraction make it sound like everything is always sunshine and roses. But it’s not… for anyone. As long as you’re on this planet, in a body, you’re going to have challenges. That’s part of what we agreed to when we chose to incarnate.
Getting yourself out of feeling blue isn’t always easy. There is a magnetic pull towards the negative. It seems that it’s more difficult to pull ourselves up, out of the blues than it is to sink down into them. The fact is it takes effort to pull (and keep) ourselves “up.” Science is even proving that being happy doesn’t always happen naturally; it takes effort. Happiness is a choice.
The thing is, because of how the Law of Attraction works, when you’re in a low-vibe state, you tend to attract more low vibrational experiences to you, which perpetuates more low vibe emotions, and it becomes a vicious cycle.
So, how do you break the cycle and feel happy, joyful, content?
Here are some simple and easy life hacks to help you get yourself out of the doldrums and feel happier FAST.
1. Get out in nature.
There is something about the fresh air, sunshine (if you have any where you are), even rain and snow, that is refreshing, invigorating, life-enhancing. Whether it’s sitting out in the fresh air, taking a walk, lying on the fresh grass, gardening (one of my favorite things)… Just get out in nature.
You’ll feel even better if you do something tactile like feeling the grass or sand beneath your feet. Or feeling the rain on your face. Or playing in the snow. There is something therapeutic about getting your hands “dirty” gardening. I love the feeling of the soil in my hands. (I know you’re supposed to wear gloves, but the soil between my fingers really does feel therapeutic to me.)
Whatever your weather is like, go outside, get some fresh air and enjoy the nature around you… And feel your mood lift.
2. Watch comedies.
Laughter raises your vibration and stimulates endorphins, which are the feel-good hormone. I can literally feel my energy lightening up when I watch a really good comedy and laugh out loud. Some of my favorites are I Love Lucy, The Golden Girls, Friends, Frasier, The Big Bang Theory. What are some of yours? Binge watch some comedies on Netflix and feel your energy begin to lighten up. 😊
3. Remind yourself of what you’re grateful for.
Even when you feel down, there are things in your life to be grateful for… your home, your family, your work, your friends, your furbabies, your car, the internet, the sunshine, the rain. 4. Make small changes.
Even taking small actions will improve your mood. When we take steps towards the changes we want to make in our lives, we feel a sense of accomplishment. Taking action – even small ones – begins to increase self-confidence and raise your vibration, and you’ll soon find yourself feeling happier.
5. Change your environment.
Our environment reflects our state of mind – whether we’re feeling great or feeling blue. And our environment, in turn, affects our state of mind and our emotions. Often when we feel down, our environment is a mess, disorganized, cluttered, and that causes us to feel even worse.
Even small changes in your environment can help to brighten your mood… fresh flowers, plants, a Himalayan Salt lamp or a new crystal. There are more ideas for raising the vibration of your space here.
6. Write affirmations.
Affirmations are a statement of what you want to experience, that are in the positive, present tense.
Some examples of affirmations are:
“Every day in every way, my life is getting better and better.”
“Today is the first day of the rest of my life.”
“God/The Universe supports me in all that I do.”
“I am loved and love unconditionally.”
“Spirit is with me and goes before me in all that I do.”
“I am a precious child of a loving God/Universe/Spirit.”
“God/The Universe is my partner and my source of limitless supply. My needs are always met.”
Write an affirmation at least ten times, and really try to feel the emotion of what you’re writing. Feel the truth of the affirmation. Just the act of writing affirmations will begin to raise your vibration and help to improve your mood. Then the more you can feel the emotion of the affirmation, the more you attract that same energy into your life.

7. Get wet.
Water has negative ions, which have a positive effect on our mood and well-being. That’s why you feel so good at the beach or lake. Large bodies of water give off negative ions. But you can get a similar effect by taking a relaxing shower or bath. Take some time for yourself, relax and bathe yourself in negative ions.
8. Make your bed.
Making your bed in the morning will give you a sense of accomplishment. Whatever you do or don’t do for the rest of the day, you’re starting your day with an accomplishment! And that is a motivator for you to take more small actions throughout the day. Retired Navy Admiral William H. McRaven wrote a whole book based on this called, Make Your Bed.
9. Keep up your self-care.
When you’re feeling down, you may not feel like washing your face. Sometimes it’s hard to motivate yourself to take care of yourself when you feel down. But that’s when you need it the most. You’ll feel so much better if you do even these simple things for yourself.
10. Clear your energy.
We all have energetic blockages that can keep us stuck and feeling blue. Sometimes our souls even create these experiences in our lives because they want to have a certain experience, or gain a lesson that we can only learn by going through the painful experience.
