My Spiritual Journey to MerAkhet

I’ve felt a very strong connection to Ancient Egypt ever since I was a child. I remember when the King Tut exhibit came to the United States, and I wanted to go see it. But my father wouldn’t take me because he said there was a legend about a curse if anyone saw the sarcophagus in person. I was so disappointed.

For a long time, I’ve felt like there were likely some past life experiences there. But I never really delved in to find out more.

And then over the last few years, it seemed like more and more things were coming into my awareness about Ancient Egypt. I saw people I’m friends with on Facebook taking treks to Ancient Egypt. I was seeing things online and in my inbox about Ancient Egypt.

I couldn’t help but feel like there was a reason that I felt such a strong pull towards Egypt… and was seeing it showing up all around me, but didn’t really know what to do about it. I really wanted to travel there, but that didn’t really fit with my current life situation.

One night, I decided to just follow my intuition and see where it led me. And where it led me was on a very interesting journey.

This is a deeply personal story that I haven’t wanted to share until now. And even now, it feels very vulnerable to share this.

Here is my journey

I sat with my eyes closed, wondering what, if anything, was going to happen.

Just to be clear: this was not a guided visualization. In a guided visualization, someone may say something like, “Imagine you’re standing in front of a door. You step forward and open the door. Through the doorway is a field of wildflowers and bright blue sky…” So you visualize what is being described.

The same applies if you’re doing a visualization yourself, except in that case, it’s not someone else who’s saying those things. It’s you planning out what you’re going to visualize.

This isn’t what happened. I was not consciously thinking, “Do this” or “Imagine that.” I had no idea what I would see.

As I sat there with my eyes closed, focusing on my breathing, I suddenly saw myself sitting in a boat – like a canoe – and I was rowing along in a river. I could see the river bank on my right side as I rowed along.

This was such an odd experience for me. Consciously, I was thinking, “Where am I going? What’s going to happen?”

So I rowed along and after a while, I saw a small wooden dock to my right. As I rowed, I approached the dock and pulled up to it. I tied the boat to the dock and got out of the boat.

I began walking off of the dock onto a grassy area. It seemed to go on forever. I could feel the cool grass on my feet. And I saw that I was wearing a white, flowy dress.

As I kept walking, the grass gradually turned into sand, and I found myself walking in the desert. Again, I had no idea where I was, where I was going, or what was going to happen. I had no idea “who” was leading this, but I knew it was not my conscious mind, which was actually a little unsettling. But I also knew that if anything happened that made me uncomfortable, I could just open my eyes.

So as I continued walking on the sand, I saw a pyramid in the distance. I continued walking and approached the pyramid. I knew I was supposed to enter the pyramid.

I have to say here that I have never visited the pyramids, so I have no idea if what I’m describing is in any way physically accurate. This was a spiritual experience for me, and I tried my best to stay out of judgement while I was going through it.

There was an opening where I walked inside the pyramid. I could see hieroglyphs on the walls and a lit torch.

I took the torch and walked further into the pyramid. I walked through the corridors as I felt guided, and down staircases to deep inside the pyramid.

There I found myself standing in front of large stone door. I knew I was supposed to enter the room. I touched the door and it easily opened for me.

I walked inside the room. In the center of the room was a large rectangle stone box, which I’m assuming was a sarcophagus.

I felt guided to sit on the floor, so I put the torch in a holder on the wall, sat down, leaning against the wall, and closed my eyes. Then I started to feel energy coming in the top of my head. I felt it filling my body and coming out through my hands and feet. I sat for maybe a minute or so feeling the energy coming through me.

Then the energy ceased and I opened my eyes. I sat for another minute or so, assimilating what I had experienced. Then I stood up, took the torch, closed the door, and walked back up the stairs and through the corridors to the opening of the pyramid. There I put back the torch and stood and just touched the inner wall of the pyramid. What I felt is indescribable. It was a peace and calm and tranquility that I wish I could feel all the time.

As much as I wanted to stay in the pyramid and soak up the feeling, I knew it was time for me to leave. So I reluctantly left the pyramid and walked back through the sandy desert, onto the grassy area, back to the dock. There I got into the canoe and rowed back down the river.

Then I opened my eyes.

This was such a powerful experience.

It’s really beyond anything that I can describe. I was left with such a feeling of peace and calm.

I knew that I wanted to bring the energy I had felt inside the pyramid to my daily life. But how?

I’ve worked with marrying different energies with the Reiki energy before, and know how powerful that can be. This experience inspired me to bring together the energies of the pyramid and the light energy I felt flowing through me inside the pyramid, with the Reiki energy.

There is power in a name.

The name had to be special. The name had to embody the energy I had felt in the pyramid. The name had to have meaning.

In Ancient Egypt, the hieroglyph for pyramid translated as the word, “mer,” which literally means “place of ascendance.”

And “Akhet” is an Egyptian hieroglyph that represents the sun rising over a mountain. It is translated as “horizon” or “the place in the sky where the sun rises”. It was the closest word in Ancient Egypt that I could find for “light.”

Pyramid of Light. It resonated very deeply within me.

And so, MerAkhet Reiki™ was born.

Of course there’s more. I worked with Spirit to marry the energies and choose symbols.

Initially, I was given only one symbol and told there was only one level for MerAkhet Reiki™. Okay. Cool.

Then, about a year later, I felt inspired to begin using a second symbol in addition to the first. That was the evolution to a second level of MerAkhet Reiki™, though I didn’t realize it at the time.

I continued doing MerAkhet Reiki™ literally every day. It’s not a chore or something I cross of a “to do” list. It’s become part of my life. It’s something I enjoy doing, and it helps me relax.

This last September, almost two years to the day since I first found myself on this spiritual journey to Ancient Egypt, a third symbol came to me while I was falling asleep and doing MerAkhet Reiki™ on myself. I fell asleep and totally forgot about it.

Then later the next day, I suddenly remembered that I had seen a symbol while half asleep. I immediately began using the symbol with the MerAkhet Reiki™ and I could feel the powerful energy coming through.

In fact, it’s so powerful that I’ve found that when I do Reiki on my dog, he prefers the lower levels. When I use the third symbol on him, he gets up and walks away. Animals always have an instinct about energies and what they need.

After 2 years of doing MerAkhet Reiki™, it has evolved to 3 levels.✨
